Have a Heart for Heroes

The veterans of South Queens were treated to a special care package giveaway as part of State Senator Comrie’s ‘Have a Heart for Heroes’ drive. The event, co-sponsored by Council Member I. Daneek Miller and WellCare offered three hundred care packages to veterans stationed at the federal branch of the Veterans’ Administration in St. Albans Community Living Center.

The care packages were provided by Wellcare, a health care organization that works in concert with Medicaid and Medicare to help subsidize the cost of health care.

Senator Comrie, who sits on the Senate's
Committee for Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs, offered gratitude to those in attendance for their service and pledged the highest quality of support: "While the debt we owe our veterans for their brave service is by no means easy to repay, we can take important steps to ease their burden upon returning home: offering financial, psychological and emotional support. I am proud to work with my colleagues both locally and in the State Senate to do right by those who have pledged the ultimate promise to protect our country."
