I am a second generation from New York City and a massage therapist, licensed/registered in NYS for 30 years. I do not support this bill. I know two of my professional associations New York State Society of Medical Massage Therapists (NYSSMMT) and The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) does not either. We enter this field with a minimum of 1000 hours (includes studies of all the systems of the body, pathology, clinic time and additional certifications in CPR and first aid, and we then have mandatory continuing education. Many states don't have licensure, certification, continuing education and some that have licensure do not have the required curriculum comparable to ours. That does not help elevate our field. The patients we serve deserve a high standard of professional care. Please oppose this bill.
