The state Senate approved bills on Monday that would allow the Washingtonville, Chester and Warwick Valley school districts to hold referendums on creating wards for the election of their school board members.

“Providing school districts the option to establish a ward system of voting is a reasonable and common-sense measure that all cities and towns already possess,” Skoufis said. “Particularly in diverse communities, wards can ensure fair and equal representation where there otherwise may not be either.”
