STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Staten Island District Attorney’s office has been awarded $100,000 from New York state for crime-fighting video surveillance equipment, secured through the efforts of Sen. Jessica Sarcella-Spanton, it was announced on Monday.

The grant will support District Attorney Michael McMahon’s work focused on holding law breakers accountable and the prevention of crime.

According to Sarcella-Spanton, this grant has been a goal for a while, to make sure the needed investments are there to help ensure the community’s safety.

“We hear the phrase in Albany a lot that ‘budgets show our priorities,’” said Sarcella-Spanton. “We are proud to stand here today with our DA to reaffirm that my priority is the safety of my constituents by ensuring our district attorney’s office has all the resources that they need in order to prevent crime.”

Sarcella-Spanton pointed out that this morning there was a report of hate language graffiti at East Shore Little League and that her team, in conjunction with the district attorney’s team, went out to clean up.

“Cameras like this in that kind of situation would be critical in finding out who the perpetrators are,” she said.
