Senator Serrano Protects Voter's Rights

May 5, 2016

Senator Serrano is a proud co-sponsor of the Voter Empowerment Act of New York (S.2538B), which creates an easy and effective registration process for all potential voters and helps eliminate potential hurdles for a voter when they move. He is also co-sponsoring Senate Bill S2740, which would drastically reduce the amount of time a voter who has changed their enrollment from one party to another will have to wait before being able to vote in a primary election and has recently argued for a June primary election date, in order to provide hard working voters the opportunity to participate in both the congressional and state primaries on the same day.

"The right to vote is a fundamental right that we should be seeking to expand, not restrict. I have been an ally in the fight to protect voters rights for many years and will continue to stand against any legislation that restricts voter's rights and will proceed to advocate for expanded access to the ballot box."
