DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE LOCAL PARK? VOLUNTEER TO GIVE BACK!

HYDE PARK, NY—Senator Sue Serino (R, C, I—Hyde Park) today was at the Walkway Over the Hudson to encourage community members to register to volunteer on Saturday, May 7, 2016 for the 5th Annual ‘I Love My Park Day.’

The statewide event typically draws thousands of volunteers who converge on local parks and historic sites to help clean-up and improve the sites while raising awareness for the needs of New York’s park systems. On May 7th, volunteers of all ages will come together to give back by beautifying their local parks, beaches and historic sites,  planting trees and gardens, restoring trails, and improving wildlife habitats.

According to Parks & Trails of New York, the state’s leading advocate for New York’s parks and trails system, last year’s event saw 6,500 volunteers take part in more than 200 projects at 95 state parks and historic sites across the state.

“Here in the Hudson Valley, our parks and historic sites are so much of what makes us unique,” said Senator Serino. “To see hundreds of local volunteers coming together, taking time out of their busy schedules to make them a priority is an incredible experience. I look forward to being a part of ‘I Love My Park Day’ this year and I hope that we see even more volunteers coming out to support their favorite local park or historic site.”
