Senator Toby Ann Stavisky & Assemblymember Daniel Rosenthal Host Successful Paper Shredding in College Point Leading to 4,000 LBS of Paper Recycled

QUEENS- State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky (D-College Point) and Assemblymember Daniel Rosenthal (D-College Point) collaborated to host a paper shredding event at the Poppenhusen Institute in College Point which yielded an estimated 4,000 pounds of recycled paper.

This past Sunday, Rosenthal and Stavisky sponsored a free paper-shredding event at the Poppenhusen Institute that brought out dozens of households and collected thousands of pounds of paper. The two representatives of College Point hired the mobile shredding company, Data-Struction Inc, who provided on-site shredding by way of a box truck equipped with an industrial shredder. Community members lined up with bags, boxes and suitcases full of unwanted documents containing sensitive personal information and watched on a screen as their documents were shredded in real-time. Before departing, the vendor estimated 4,000 LBS was collected based on a sounding of the truck’s cargo hold.

"I am proud to see that this one event brought out dozens of households and alone helped two tons of paper waste from entering our landfills," said Assemblymember Daniel Rosenthal. "Not only was this event successful in creating a green option for unwanted paper, but also allowed for a confident disposal of documents containing sensitive personal information for seniors. I would like to thank the College Point community, Senator Stavisky’s Office and Poppenhusen Institute for making this event a huge success.”

“This weekend’s paper shredding event was a great success," said Senator Toby Ann Stavisky. "I am glad so many community members took advantage of this secure way to dispose of hardcopy documents. Thank you to Assemblymember Rosenthal for co-hosting this event which helped keep our residents from falling victim to identity theft.”

The Senator and Assemblymember will be hosting another free paper-shredding event on Sunday, June 12 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills.
