CORTLANDT, N.Y. – Two Cortlandt volunteers will be inducted into the first class of State Sen. Greg Ball’s Women of Distinction Hall of Fame.

Sheila Guida and Marie Turner, both volunteers with Hudson Valley Hospital Center’s Auxiliary, were honored at Tuesday night’s Cortlandt Town Board meeting and presented with framed certificates and flowers by Jim Coleman, Ball’s chief of staff.

“They are two fine examples and stand for all that is good about Cortlandt and this country,” Coleman said.

Guida and Turner, who will be officially inducted during a ceremony March 30 in Putnam County, were humbled by the recognition.

“This came to me as a complete surprise,” Guida said. “Volunteering, you do it because you want to do it. You don’t do it for the cheers. You figure nobody is paying attention.”

“It’s my pleasure to volunteer,” Turner said. “I get much fulfillment from it.”

Cortlandt Supervisor Linda Puglisi said the selection of Guida and Turner was well deserved.

“They’re just wonderful. I see Sheila and Marie all over the place,” she said.
