Wcax: NY Bills Seek to Help Disabled Veterans
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – Proposed state legislation would give disabled veterans a competitive advantage in landing state contracts while using tax incentives to help employers hire veterans.
State Sen. Greg Ball and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos announced the bills Tuesday.
The benefit for disabled veterans would give them additional points when competing for state contracts. Similar advantages are provided for women- and minority-owned businesses to help end the under representation of those sectors in landing state contracts.
Ball, a former Air Force officer, notes that the unemployment rate is around 12% for veterans who served in the military since 2011. That’s significantly higher than unemployment for the general public. (READ MORE)
