Playground Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway), City Council Member Donovan Richards (D-Laurelton, Far Rockaway) and NYC Parks Department officials, will welcome a new playground (named Cardozo Playground) at Goldie Maple Academy in Arverne with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 4, 2016, at 1 p.m.
During his time as a City Council Member, Senator Sanders allocated $2 million in funding for the renovations at Goldie Maple, which include an Olympic-size track field and playground, and Council Member Richards has contributed an additional $1 million to fully fund the project and bring it to fruition.
"I remember a time when this was a barren space," Sanders said. "There was no real place for the children to play or exercise and enjoy themselves. I had a vision of an area filled with recreational options. Now, after many years of struggle we made the impossible, possible. I would like to thank Council Member Richards for sharing my vision and allocating $1 million in funding towards the completion of this project, and the parents and administrators at Goldie Maple for their dedication to the betterment of the lives of the youth and the greater community."
