State Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Far Rockaway) will give a glimpse into the Caribbean Carnival in the Rockaways when he hosts a kick-off for the second annual event in collaboration with the West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA), the Rockaway Development Revitalization Corporation (RDRC), the Parks Department and the Dred Surfer Grill.

The Senator’s preview will include masqueraders in brightly colored elaborate costumes, steel pan drummers and moko jumbies at a 3 pm press conference, Saturday, June 30, 2018, at the Beach 21st Street Plaza in Far Rockaway.

The Carnival celebrates the various arts & culture of the Caribbean, while highlighting the hidden jewel that is the Rockaways. It was such a success last year that organizers expect an even better event this year. The Caribbean Carnival in the Rockaways will take place on Saturday, August 18, 2018.

The August parade will start 11 a.m. at Mott Avenue and Beach 20th Street, then continue to Seagirt Blvd. ending at the Beach 17th Street amphitheater in the park. There will be local youth performances, entertainment and cultural related activities. Residents are invited to participate in the festivities by patronizing various vendors and wearing costumes available to the public for purchase or rent through a myriad of designers.

Senator Sanders invites you to come out to Rockaway and celebrate with us!
