Senator Addabbo Hosts Self-Defense Training to Raise Awareness During Sexual Assault Awareness Month
- Self-Defense
Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. is taking a proactive stance during Sexual Assault Awareness Month by organizing an interactive self-defense training class to empower the public against potential attacks.
According to RAINN, an average of 463,634 individuals aged 12 or older fall victim to rape and sexual assault each year in the United States.
At Senator Addabbo's event, participants of all ages will have the opportunity to learn effective and practical techniques to evade or defend against attackers. The class, led by Michael Botier, the Director of Martial Arts at Red Dawn Combat Club, will focus on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques.
Attendees can choose to observe Botier's demonstrations alongside instructors from his club or actively engage in practicing the techniques during the session. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, 2024, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Majestic Marquis, 8803 101st Avenue, in Ozone Park.
In addition to the training, resources will be provided on-site by the NYPD Special Victims Department and Safe Horizon, offering vital support services to victims of criminal sexual assault.
Senator Addabbo emphasized, "Sexual assault is a grave offense that leaves lasting physical and emotional impacts on survivors. Our goal is to raise awareness about this form of violence and contribute to educating the community."
