SFY 2018-19 JOINT LEGISLATIVE BUDGET HEARING

Senate Finance Committee Chair Catharine M. Young and Assembly Ways and Means Committee Chair Helene E. Weinstein will hold the first hearing, in a series of 13 hearings, on the 2018-2019 Executive Budget on Tuesday, January 23rd, at 9:30 a.m. in Hearing Room B of the Legislative Office Building, Albany.
During the Higher Education Hearing, government officials and representatives of various institutions of higher learning, including student and faculty advocacy groups, from across the state will have an opportunity to address the Senate and Assembly fiscal committees.
These joint hearings will continue through February 13th and will be available for viewing on the Senate and Assembly websites. The Legislative Channel (on cable systems throughout the state) also will carry the proceedings, which will be preempted when the houses are in session. At the conclusion of the legislative deliberations, the channel will resume televised coverage of the hearings.
Scheduled to testify are State University of New York Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson, City University of New York Chancellor James B. Milliken, New York State Education Department Commissioner MaryEllen Elia, and New York State Higher Education Services Corporation Executive Vice President Dr. Guillermo Linares.
Also among those testifying are Andrew Pallotta, President, NYSUT; Frederick Kowal, President, United University Professions; Barbara Bowen, President, Professional Staff Congress; and Christopher Black, Director of Legislation, NYSUT.
Testimony also will be provided by the Commission of Independent Colleges and Universities President Mary Beth Labate, NYPIRG Chairperson Board of Directors Smitha Varghese, and Association of Proprietary Colleges President Donna Gurnett.
Others testifying include Children’s Aid Society Fostering Youth Success Alliance Director Jessica Maxwell; On Point for College Executive Director Samuel Rowser, Utica Director Kevin Marken and Directors, Allison Palmer and Judy Lorimer; SUNY Student Assembly President Marc J. Cohen and Chief of Staff Austin Ostro; and CUNY Student Assembly Vice Chair Fiscal Affairs Francesca Royal and Delegate Jasper Diaz.
