Joint Legislative Public Hearing on 2019-2020 Executive Budget Proposal: Topic Higher Education

Senate Finance Committee Chair Liz Krueger and Assembly Ways and Means Committee Chair Helene E. Weinstein will hold the third hearing, in a series of 13 hearings, on the 2019-20 Executive Budget on Monday, January 28th, at 11:00 a.m. in Hearing Room B of the Legislative Office Building, Albany.
During the Higher Education Hearing, government officials and representatives of various institutions of higher learning, including student and faculty advocacy groups, from across the state will have an opportunity to address the Senate and Assembly fiscal committees.
These joint hearings will continue through February 12th and will be available for viewing on the Senate and Assembly websites. The Legislative Channel (on cable systems throughout the state) also will carry the proceedings, which will be preempted when the houses are in session. At the conclusion of the legislative deliberations, the channel will resume televised coverage of the hearings.
Scheduled to testify are State University of New York Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson, City University of New York Interim Chancellor Vita C. Rabinowitz, New York State Education Department Commissioner MaryEllen Elia, and New York State Higher Education Services Corporation Acting President Dr. Guillermo Linares.
Also among those testifying are NYSUT President Andrew Pallotta, United University Professions President Frederick Kowal, and Professional Staff Congress President Barbara Bowen.
Testimony also will be provided by the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities President Mary Beth Labate, NYPIRG Chairperson, Board of Directors Smitha Varghese, and Association of Proprietary Colleges President Donna Stelling-Gurnett.
Others testifying include Veterans Education Success State Policy Manager Ramond Curits, Coalition of NYS Career Schools Executive Director/Counsel Terrance Zaleski, SUNY Student Assembly Chief of Staff Alex George, and CUNY Student Assembly Vice Chair for International Affairs Greshawna Clement.
