SFY 2018-19 JOINT LEGISLATIVE BUDGET HEARING

Senate Finance Committee Chair Catharine M. Young and Assembly Ways and Means Committee Chair Helene E. Weinstein will hold the seventh hearing, in a series of 13 hearings, on the 2018-2019 Executive Budget on Wednesday, January 31st, at 9:30 a.m. in Hearing Room B of the Legislative Office Building, Albany.
During the Elementary and Secondary Education Hearing, New York State Education Department Commissioner MaryEllen Elia and New York City Department of Education Chancellor Carmen Fariña along with representatives of various education advocacy groups will provide testimony to the Senate and Assembly fiscal committees.
These joint hearings will continue through February 13th and will be available for viewing on the Senate and Assembly websites. The Legislative Channel (on cable systems throughout the state) also will carry the proceedings, which will be preempted when the houses are in session. At the conclusion of the legislative deliberations, the channel will resume televised coverage of the hearings.
Testimony is scheduled from the United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew and Assistant to the President Cassie Prugh; and New York State United Teachers President Andrew Pallotta and Director of Legislation Christopher Black.
Also providing testimony are representatives from the Conference of Big Five School Districts including Buffalo School District Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash, Rochester School District Chief Financial Officer Everton Sewell, Syracuse School District Superintendent Jaime Alicea, Yonkers Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Edwin Quezada, and Executive Director Georgia Asciutto.
Testimony is also expected from 4201 Schools Association Chair Dr. Bernadette Kappen, Alliance for Quality Education Legislative Director Jasmine Gripper, and New York State Council of School Superintendents Deputy Director Robert Lowry.
Others testifying include Council of School Supervisors and Administrators President Mark Cannizzaro; School Administrators Association of New York State Director of Government Relations Cynthia Gallagher; and New York State School Boards Association Director of Government Relations Julie Marlette.
