BILL NUMBER:A9131 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the religious corporations law and the executive law, in relation to setting the fee to 50 dollars for filing and recording articles of incorporation for churches PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To set the fee for filing religious incorporation certification at fifty dollars. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section I: The religious incorporations law is amended by adding a new section 3-a. 3-a. Fee for filing and recording. All counties shall charge a fee of fifty dollars for filing and recording a certificate of incorporation for a religious corporation. Subdivision 9 of section 96 of the executive law is amended by adding a new paragraph c. Paragraph c. For filing under the religious corporation law: a certificate of incorporation, fifty dollars. JUSTIFICATION: Religious organizations in New York State are required to file their articles of incorporation with the county in which they plan to operate. The fees charged by county governments currently range from $25 to $150. This legislation would set the rate a county could charge for filing at $50. This measure will make the process of filing uniform across the State, simplifying the process for religious organizations and county government officials.
