  printed to be committed to the Committee on Elections

AN ACT to amend the election law, in  relation  to  permitting  election
  inspectors and poll clerks to split shifts

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Section 3-400 of the election law is amended  by  adding  a
new subdivision 7 to read as follows:
  7. EVERY BOARD OF ELECTIONS MAY AUTHORIZE ELECTION INSPECTORS AND POLL
CLERKS  TO  WORK  SPLIT  SHIFTS. FOR PERSONS WORKING SPLIT SHIFTS, THEIR
COMPENSATION SHALL BE PRORATED ACCORDINGLY. THE STATE BOARD OF ELECTIONS
SHALL PRESCRIBE BY RULE ANY CHANGES IN PROCEDURES AND PRESCRIBE BY  RULE
ANY OTHER MEASURES NECESSARY TO IMPLEMENT THIS SUBDIVISION.
  S 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
it  shall  have  become  a law; provided that each board of elections is
authorized to promulgate any rules necessary to implement the provisions
of this act on or before such effective date.
