BILL NUMBER: S441 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system in the county of Tioga as the "Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway" SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Adds new Section 343-w to the Highway Law designating State Route 434 in the County of Tioga from state route ninety-six in the town of Owego to the western boundary of the town of Vestal in the County of Broome as the "Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway." JUSTIFICATION : This bill is being introduced at the request of the Town of Owego and the County of Tioga as an appropriate memorial to recently deceased United States President Ronald Reagan, who served our country with such distinction. LIBOUS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system in the county of Tioga as the "Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 343-w to read as follows: S 343-W. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "RONALD REAGAN MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM IN THE COUNTY OF TIOGA CONSTITUTING STATE ROUTE FOUR HUNDRED THIRTY-FOUR FROM STATE ROUTE NINETY-SIX IN THE TOWN OF OWEGO TO THE WESTERN BOUNDARY OF THE TOWN OF VESTAL, IN THE COUNTY OF BROOME SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "RONALD REAGAN MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not be changed as a result of this act.
