BILL NUMBER: S5390 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the retirement and social security law, in relation to allowing members of organized units of Suffolk county correction officers to transfer service credit from any New York state and local retirement system up to seven years PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : Allows the transfer of service credit from any New York state and local retirement system up to seven years. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Section 1 of the bill amends subdivision d of §89-f of the Retirement & Social Security Law. Section 2. Subdivision f of §89-f of the Retirement & Social Security Law is amended. JUSTIFICATION : All county correction officers and deputy sheriff-jailers with prior service in any New York State Retirement System should be allowed to

FLANAGAN, VOLKER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Civil Service and Pensions AN ACT to amend the retirement and social security law, in relation to allowing members of organized units of Suffolk county correction offi- cers to transfer service credit from any New York state and local retirement system up to seven years THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision d of section 89-f of the retirement and social security law, as added by chapter 591 of the laws of 1988 and such section as renumbered by chapter 771 of the laws of 1988, is amended to read as follows: d. As used in this section "creditable service" shall include (I) any and all services performed as a correction officer of Suffolk county OR (II) ANY SERVICE DESCRIBED IN SUBDIVISION F OF THIS SECTION. S 2. Subdivision f of section 89-f of the retirement and social secu- rity law, as added by chapter 591 of the laws of 1988, such subdivision as relettered by chapter 543 of the laws of 1992, and such section as renumbered by chapter 771 of the laws of 1988, is amended to read as follows: f. Credit for service as a member [or officer of the state police or as a paid fireman, policeman or officer of any organized fire department or police force or department of any county, city, village, town, fire district or police district, or as a criminal investigator in the office of a district attorney, provided that service as such investigator shall have been rendered prior to January first, nineteen hundred sixty and] OF ANY NEW YORK STATE AND LOCAL EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM, NEW YORK STATE AND LOCAL POLICE AND FIRE RETIREMENT SYSTEM, NEW YORK STATE TEACH- ERS' RETIREMENT SYSTEM, NEW YORK CITY EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM, NEW YORK CITY POLICE AND FIRE RETIREMENT SYSTEM AND THE NEW YORK CITY BOARD EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
