BILL NUMBER: S681 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to designating protective officers of the United States mint police as peace officers PURPOSE : Gives peace officer status to the protective officers of the United States mint police, United States Department of the Treasury. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 1: Amends section 2.15 of the Criminal Procedure Law by creating a new subdivision 28. This new subdivision adds the United States mint police, protective officers to the list of federal law enforcement officers granted peace officer powers under section 2.15 of the criminal procedure law. JUSTIFICATION : This bill was requested by the United States Mint Police. This is because New York State is changing its computer system from NYSPEN to EJSUTICE. This system is used for gathering information and performing background checks. Without peace officer status, U.S. Mint Police will not be able to access the new EJUSTICE computer system which is vital to their law enforcement duties.
