BILL NUMBER: S7116 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system in the town of Ellicott as the "Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Memorial Bridge" PURPOSE : To recognize the historic significance of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz to the Jamestown area by naming the bridge on Interstate 86 which crosses over North Main Street in the Town of Ellicott as the "Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Memorial Bridge." SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 1. Adds a new subdivision (kk) to Section 342 of the highway law designating a portion of interstate route eighty-six as the "Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Memorial Bridge." Section 2. Provides that the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation shall provide for the installation and maintenance of adequate signage reflecting the ceremonial designation of this bridge as the "Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Memorial Bridge." YOUNG -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system in the town of Ellicott as the "Lucille Ball- Desi Arnaz Memorial Bridge" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 342-kk to read as follows: S 342-KK. PORTION OF STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "LUCILLE BALL-DESI ARNAZ MEMORIAL BRIDGE". THE BRIDGE ON INTERSTATE ROUTE EIGHTY-SIX WHICH CROSSES NORTH MAIN STREET IN THE TOWN OF ELLI- COTT, COUNTY OF CHAUTAUQUA, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "LUCILLE BALL-DESI ARNAZ MEMORIAL BRIDGE". S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such bridge shall not be changed as a result of this act.
