CANESTRARI, GLICK, GOTTFRIED, McENENY, PHEFFER, ROSENTHAL -- read once and referred to the Committee on Cities AN ACT to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to liability insurance coverage for taxicabs and liveries, safety training for delinquent taxi drivers, and requiring taxis to display the taxi and limousine commission's complaint number on their bumpers THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 19-504.5 to read as follows: S 19-504.5 INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR TAXICABS AND LIVERIES. EVERY TAXICAB AND LIVERY AUTHORIZED TO OPERATE SHALL MAINTAIN IN FORCE, AND PROVIDE PROOF THEREOF TO THE COMMISSION, LIABILITY INSURANCE AS FOLLOWS: SUCH LIABILITY INSURANCE SHALL MEAN A POLICY THAT MEETS THE REQUIRE- MENTS OF THE VEHICLE AND TRAFFIC LAW AND THE INSURANCE LAW AND THAT PROVIDES FOR INSURANCE AGAINST LOSS FROM THE LIABILITY IMPOSED BY LAW FOR DAMAGES, INCLUDING DAMAGES FOR CARE AND LOSS OF SERVICES, BECAUSE OF BODILY INJURY TO OR DEATH OF ANY PERSON AND INJURY TO OR DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY ARISING OUT OF THE OWNERSHIP, MAINTENANCE, USE, OR OPERATION OF A SPECIFIC MOTOR VEHICLE OR MOTOR VEHICLES WITHIN THE STATE OF NEW YORK, OR ELSEWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES IN NORTH AMERICA OR THE DOMINION OF CANADA, SUBJECT TO A LIMIT, EXCLUSIVE OF INTEREST AND COSTS, WITH RESPECT TO EACH SUCH MOTOR VEHICLE, OF ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS BECAUSE OF BODILY INJURIES TO AND TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS BECAUSE OF DEATH OF ONE PERSON IN ANY ONE ACCIDENT AND, SUBJECT TO SAID LIMIT FOR ONE PERSON, TO A LIMIT OF TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS BECAUSE OF BODILY INJURY TO AND THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS BECAUSE OF DEATH OF TWO OR MORE PERSONS IN ANY ONE ACCIDENT.
