BILL NUMBER:A8785 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to the development of a model pesticide policy PURPOSE: The purpose of this legislation is to develop model pesticide policy. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one of this bill amends Section 33-0303 of the Environmental Conservation Law by adding a new subdivision directing the Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Conserva- tion, in consultation with the Commissioner of Health, to develop model pesticide policy, such policy including recommendations for physical, biological and mechanical control methods as well as integrated pest management. JUSTIFICATION: Strategies for effectively managing pests vary signif- icantly from place to place. A model policy, including physical, biolog- ical and mechanical control methods will assist entities across the state in effectively controlling pests. LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: This is new legislation. ZEBROWSKI, SWEENEY -- read once and referred to the Committee on Environmental Conservation AN ACT to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to the development of a model pesticide policy THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 33-0303 of the environmental conservation law is amended by adding a new subdivision 7 to read as follows: 7. THE COMMISSIONER, IN CONSULTATION WITH THE COMMISSIONER OF EDUCA- TION AND THE COMMISSIONER OF HEALTH, SHALL DEVELOP A MODEL PESTICIDE POLICY. SUCH POLICY SHALL INCLUDE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PHYSICAL, BIOLOG- ICAL AND MECHANICAL CONTROL METHODS AS WELL AS INTEGRATED PEST MANAGE- MENT TECHNIQUES. S 2.
