GALEF -- read once and referred to the Committee on Election Law AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to requiring judges to be enrolled members of the party for a primary election or to have received a proper certificate of authorization filed properly accord- ing to the election law THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 4 of section 6-120 of the election law, as amended by chapter 373 of the laws of 1978, is amended and a new subdi- vision 5 is added to read as follows: 4. This section shall not apply to a political party designating or nominating candidates for the first time[,] OR to candidates nominated by party caucus[, nor to candidates for judicial offices]. 5. THIS SECTION SHALL APPLY TO ANY CANDIDATE FOR JUDICIAL OFFICE IN ANY ELECTION WHERE OTHER INDIVIDUALS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHALLENGE THE NOMINATION IN A PRIMARY ELECTION. S 2.
