SPANO -- read once and referred to the Committee on Governmental Employees AN ACT to amend the civil service law, in relation to unclassified service of civil divisions of the state THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivisions (j) and (k) of section 35 of the civil service law, subdivision (j) as amended by chapter 723 of the laws of 1965 and subdivision (k) as added by chapter 1054 of the laws of 1969, are amended and a new subdivision (l) is added to read as follows: (j) all persons, other than persons covered under paragraph (g) or paragraph (h) or paragraph (i) of this section, whose principal func- tions are teaching or the supervision of teaching in a public school, academy or college[.]; (k) all positions in the professional service in the New York State School for the Blind and the New York State School for the Deaf, requir- ing the performance of educational functions, which positions shall be determined by the commissioner of education and certified by him to the civil service commission[.]; AND (L) ALL PERSONS EMPLOYED BY A CIVIL DIVISION OF THE STATE WHOSE PRIN- CIPAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES ARE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE EXECUTIVE FUNC- TIONS OF ITS MAYOR, SUPERVISOR OR CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER. S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed- ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
