BILL NUMBER: S1741 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to requiring evening court hours for parking violations PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : To require evening court hours for parking violations. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Amends subdivision 2 of section 240 of the vehicle and traffic law adding a new paragraph h to provide for evening court hours for parking violations. JUSTIFICATION : Fines for parking violations have been increasing. This bill seeks to allow working people to contest parking tickets without having to take time off from work. PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY : This legislation was previously introduced. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS : To be determined.

STAVISKY, ADAMS, DIAZ, DILAN, DUANE, HUNTLEY, C. JOHNSON, PARKER, SAMPSON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to requiring evening court hours for parking violations THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section 240 of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a new paragraph h to read as follows: H. NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW, RULE OR REGULATION, ANY CITY AUTHORIZED TO ESTABLISH AN ADMINISTRATIVE TRIBUNAL TO ADJUDICATE PARKING VIOLATIONS PURSUANT TO THIS ARTICLE SHALL MAKE AVAILABLE HEARING EXAMINERS TO CONDUCT HEARINGS UNTIL 7:00 P.M. AT LEAST ONE EVENING EACH WEEK. S 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall have become a law. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD03973-01-9
