BILL NUMBER: S1829 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to the fees paid by senior citizens for drivers' licenses PURPOSE : This bill would reduce the driver license fee for those 65 years of age and older. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : This bill would amend the vehicle and traffic law by adding a new paragraph to Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section 503 decreasing the fees for a New York State Driver's License to 50% of their current level. JUSTIFICATION : Senior citizens, most of whom live on fixed incomes, must budget their finances to meet their ever increasing obligatory expenses. Consequently, when driver license fees were quadrupled in 1983, seniors suffered a disproportionate burden on their fixed incomes.
