BILL NUMBER: S2071 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the insurance law, in relation to health insurance coverage for services by nutritionists PURPOSE : This bill will provide health insurance coverage for nutritional care provided through licensed Nutritionists. JUSTIFICATION : It is vital for health insurance coverage to reflect the needs of its policy holders. The increased diagnosis of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and obesity make it necessary for policy holders to avail themselves of the services of licensed Nutritionists. Nutritionists complement the overall medical treatment program provided by primary care physicians for life-threatening diseases. LEGISLATIVE HISTORY : New Bill. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS : None. HUNTLEY, ADAMS, DIAZ, ESPADA, PARKER, SAMPSON, STAVISKY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Insurance AN ACT to amend the insurance law, in relation to health insurance coverage for services by nutritionists THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subparagraphs (J) and (K) of paragraph 1 of subsection (b) of section 4301 of the insurance law, as relettered by chapter 456 of the laws of 1993, are amended and a new subparagraph (L) is added to read as follows: (J) necessary appliances, drugs, medicines and supplies, [and] (K) bio-analytical or clinical laboratory examinations and reports thereof reported to a physician, osteopath, dentist, optometrist, podia- trist, chiropractor or physical therapist made by any privately operated bioanalytical or clinical laboratory[.], AND (L) NUTRITIONAL CARE PROVIDED THROUGH LICENSED NUTRITIONISTS. S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed- ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
