BILL NUMBER: S2270 TITLE OF BILL : An act in relation to authorizing and directing the department of transportation to amend its five year capital plan to include the resurfacing of a certain portion of the state highway system PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : This bill would require the New York State Department of Transportation to including the resurfacing of Jericho Turnpike in its five year capital plan. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Creates an unconsolidated law requiring the New York State Department of Transportation to include the resurfacing of Jericho Turnpike, from the intersection with Herricks Road east to its intersection with Glen Cove Road, in its five year capital plan. JUSTIFICATION : The New York State Department of Transportation is currently planning to repave and realign Jericho Turnpike from the NYC line to Herricks Road. They recently completed a similar project beginning at Glen Cove Road going east. It is unclear and absolutely unacceptable as to why the span of Jericho Turnpike from Herricks Road to Glen Cove Road, transversing the Village of Mineola, has been left out entirely. The

JOHNSON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT in relation to authorizing and directing the department of trans- portation to amend its five year capital plan to include the resurfac- ing of a certain portion of the state highway system THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the department of transportation is hereby authorized and directed to amend its five year plan to include the repairing and resurfacing of state route 25, Jericho Turnpike, from its intersection with Herricks Road east to its intersection with Glen Cove Road. Such repairing and resurfacing shall be completed in a timely manner and shall be done in a manner consistent with similar projects along such state route 25, made or to be made west of Herricks Road and east of Glen Cove Road.
