BILL NUMBER: S3518 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the executive law and the state technology law, in relation to global positioning system technology in state vehicles on and after January 1, 2010 PURPOSE : This bill would require that all vehicles acquired for state use on or after January 1, 2010 be equipped with global positioning system technology. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS : Section 1 - adds a new section 201-b to the Executive Law providing that all vehicles acquired for state use on or after January 1,2010 shall be equipped with global positioning system technology. The Office of General Services, in coordination with the Office for Technology, is required to establish a program to track these vehicles and submit such plan to the Governor, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the Assembly on or before July 1, 2010. Section 2 - adds a new section 103-a to the State Technology Law to provide all vehicles acquired for state use on or after January 1, 2010 shall be equipped with global positioning system technology. RANZENHOFER, GOLDEN, LARKIN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Investigations and Government Operations AN ACT to amend the executive law and the state technology law, in relation to global positioning system technology in state vehicles on and after January 1, 2010 THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The executive law is amended by adding a new section 201-b to read as follows: S 201-B. GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY IN STATE VEHICLES. 1. ALL VEHICLES ACQUIRED FOR STATE USE ON OR AFTER JANUARY FIRST, TWO THOU- SAND TEN SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY. 2. THE OFFICE OF GENERAL SERVICES, IN COORDINATION WITH THE OFFICE FOR TECHNOLOGY, SHALL ESTABLISH A PROGRAM TO TRACK VEHICLES ACQUIRED BY THE STATE WITH THE GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY AND SHALL SUBMIT SUCH PLAN IN WRITING TO THE GOVERNOR, TEMPORARY PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE AND SPEAKER OF THE ASSEMBLY ON OR BEFORE JULY FIRST, TWO THOUSAND TEN. S 2. The state technology law is amended by adding a new section 103-a to read as follows: S 103-A. GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY IN STATE VEHICLES. 1. ALL VEHICLES ACQUIRED FOR STATE USE ON OR AFTER JANUARY FIRST, TWO THOU- SAND TEN SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY. 2. THE OFFICE OF GENERAL SERVICES, IN COORDINATION WITH THE OFFICE FOR TECHNOLOGY, SHALL ESTABLISH A PROGRAM TO TRACK VEHICLES ACQUIRED BY THE STATE WITH THE GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY AND SHALL SUBMIT SUCH PLAN IN WRITING TO THE GOVERNOR, TEMPORARY PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE AND SPEAKER OF THE ASSEMBLY ON OR BEFORE JULY FIRST, TWO THOUSAND TEN.
