BILL NUMBER: S5318 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the executive law, in relation to requiring a visible house or building number PURPOSE : To establish that the State uniform fire prevention and building code shall require a visible house or building number. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 378 of the executive law is amended by adding a new subdivision 5-d. JUSTIFICATION : This legislation will eliminate the confusing problem faced by many who attempt to find houses or buildings where the numbers on the houses or buildings are not easily visible or are not present at all. This problem is faced especially by firefighters, police officers, school bus drivers, postal workers, and many others who need visible house and building numbers in order to perform the duties of their profession. MORAHAN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Housing, Construction and Community Development AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to requiring a visible house or building number THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 378 of the executive law is amended by adding a new subdivision 5-d to read as follows: 5-D. STANDARDS REQUIRING THAT EVERY ONE OR TWO-FAMILY DWELLING OR ANY DWELLING ACCOMMODATION LOCATED IN A BUILDING OWNED AS A CONDOMINIUM OR COOPERATIVE IN THE STATE SHALL HAVE A VISIBLE HOUSE OR BUILDING NUMBER. S 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after it shall have become a law, provided, however, that effective immediate- ly, the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rules or regulations by the secretary of state necessary for the implementation of this act on its effective date is authorized and directed to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
