BILL NUMBER: S6151 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the parks, recreation and historic preservation law, in relation to establishing the Heights Heritage Area; and to repeal provisions of such law relating thereto PURPOSE : Establishes the Heights Heritage Area, sets its boundaries and provides for its historic development features. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section one amends the Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Law by adding the Heights Heritage area to those historic settings of the state that have been identified for their statewide significance in the plan for a statewide system of urban cultural parks; and sets the boundaries for the Heights Heritage area. Section two is the enacting clause. JUSTIFICATION :

SCHNEIDERMAN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the parks, recreation and historic preservation law, in relation to establishing the Heights Heritage Area; and to repeal provisions of such law relating thereto THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph (r) of subdivision 1 of section 35.03 of the parks, recreation and historic preservation law is REPEALED and a new paragraph (r) is added to read as follows: (R) THE HEIGHTS HERITAGE AREA ENCOMPASSING THE COHESIVE GEOGRAPHIC AREA OF WEST HARLEM WITHIN THE CITY OF NEW YORK, INCLUDING A SOUTHERLY BOUNDARY OF ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-SECOND STREET, A NORTHERLY BOUNDARY OF TWO HUNDRED EIGHTEENTH STREET, AN EASTERLY BOUNDARY OF HIGHBRIDGE PARK AND TENTH AVENUE, AND A WESTERLY BOUNDARY OF THE APPROPRIATE RIVERSIDE PORTIONS ALONG THE HUDSON RIVER, ASSOCIATED AND REVEALING THE HISTORIC DEVELOPMENT OF MARITIME HISTORY, MILITARY WAR HISTORY AND THE NORTHERN MANHATTAN MIGRATION.
