BILL NUMBER: S7487 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to allowing the use of rifles for hunting in Cortland county PURPOSE : The purpose of the legislation is to allow the hunting of deer and bear with rifles in Cortland County. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : The bill amends section 11-0907 of the environmental conservation law to add C0111and County to the list of counties in which the taking of deer by rifle is authorized. EXISTING LAW : Current law allows the taking of deer in the southern tier, central, and western regions of the state by rifle in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chemung, Chenango, Herkimer, Madison, Montgomery, Oneida, Oswego, Otsego, Schoharie, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga, Yates, and a portion of Broome County. JUSTIFICATION : The legislation, which has been introduced at the request of Cortland County, would allow sportsmen and women to hunt deer and bear with

SEWARD -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Environmental Conservation AN ACT to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to allowing the use of rifles for hunting in Cortland county THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Item (i) of paragraph a of subdivision 2 of section 11-0907 of the environmental conservation law, as amended by chapter 441 of the laws of 2009, is amended to read as follows: (i) The counties of Deer, the first Monday Pistol, shotgun, Allegany, after November 15 muzzle loading Cattaraugus, Chemung, through first Tuesday firearm, Chenango, CORTLAND, after December 7 rifle or Herkimer, long bow only Madison, Montgomery, Oneida, Oswego, Otsego, Schoharie, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga and Yates and that portion of the county of Broome east of the Susquehanna river S 2. Item (i) of paragraph a of subdivision 2 of section 11-0907 of the environmental conservation law, as added by section 2 of chapter 600 of the laws of 2005, is amended to read as follows: (i) The counties of Deer and bear, the Pistol, shotgun, Allegany, first Monday after muzzle loading Cattaraugus, November 15 through firearm, rifle or Chenango, CORTLAND, first Tuesday after long bow only Herkimer, December 7 EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
