BILL NUMBER: S796 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the real property tax law, in relation to authorizing certain state lands to taxation for school purposes in the county of Suffolk PURPOSE : Relates to authorizing certain state lands to taxation for school purposes in the county of Suffolk. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Paragraph (f) of subdivision 1 of section 536 of the real property tax law, as added by section 1 of part W of chapter 62 of the laws of 2006, is amended. JUSTIFICATION : Under current law, the Riverhead Central School District receives Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) for state owned lands with the Southampton Town portion of the Central Pine Barrens Core Preservation Area and also all state owned lands Within the Riverhead Town portion. This bill would require New York State to make PILOT payments to the Riverhead Central School District for all state owned lands in the Southampton Town portion of the Riverhead School District. THIELE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Real Property Taxation AN ACT to amend the real property tax law, in relation to authorizing certain state lands to taxation for school purposes in the county of Suffolk THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph (f) of subdivision 1 of section 536 of the real property tax law, as added by section 1 of part W of chapter 62 of the laws of 2006, is amended to read as follows: (f) Lands owned by the state, outside of the core preservation area of the Central Pine Barrens area as described and bounded by [paragraph] SUBDIVISION eleven of section 57-0107 of the environmental conservation law, situate in the Riverhead central school district [within the town of Riverhead], HAMPTON BAYS UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT, AND EASTPORT-SOUTH MANOR CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT, county of Suffolk, where the title holder is listed as the "State of New York" on the [town of Riverhead's] TOWN'S assessment roll as of [March sixteenth, two thousand six] THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THE CHAPTER OF THE LAWS OF TWO THOUSAND NINE WHICH AMENDED THIS PARAGRAPH. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately and such payments shall apply to the school year commencing July 1, 2009.
