LIFTON, SWEENEY, PRETLOW, GUNTHER, GALEF -- Multi-Sponsored by -- M. of A. CAHILL, COLTON, GLICK, HOOPER, MAGEE, McENENY, PAULIN -- read once and referred to the Committee on Libraries and Education Technology CONCURRENT RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE AND ASSEMBLY proposing an amendment to section 1 of article 11 of the constitution, in relation to requiring the legislature to provide for a system of free public libraries Section 1. Resolved (if the Senate concur), That section 1 of article 11 of the constitution be amended to read as follows: Section 1. The legislature shall provide for the maintenance and support of a system of free common schools, wherein all the children of this state may be educated. THE LEGISLATURE SHALL PROVIDE FOR THE MAIN- TENANCE AND SUPPORT OF A SYSTEM OF FREE PUBLIC LIBRARIES, WHEREIN ALL THE RESIDENTS OF THIS STATE MAY BE PROVIDED WITH PUBLIC LIBRARY SERVICES. S 2. Resolved (if the Senate concur), That the foregoing amendment be referred to the first regular legislative session convening after the next succeeding general election of members of the assembly, and, in conformity with section 1 of article 19 of the constitution, be published for 3 months previous to the time of such election.
