AN ACT to amend the workers' compensation law, in relation  to  enacting
  the "Lyme disease compensation act"

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Short title. This act shall be known and may  be  cited  as
the "Lyme disease compensation act".
  S  2.  Paragraph  30  of  subdivision  2  of section 3 of the workers'
compensation law, as renumbered by chapter 665 of the laws of  1971,  is
renumbered  paragraph  31  and  a  new  paragraph 30 is added to read as
follows:
    30. LYME DISEASE               30. ANY PROCESS INVOLVING FARMING,
    (LYME BORRCLIOSIS).            LANDSCAPING OPERATIONS, TREE
                                   PRUNING, SPRAYING, REPAIRING,
                                   OR RELATED OCCUPATION WHICH
                                   CREATES EXPOSURE TO LYME
                                   DISEASE CARRYING ORGANISMS
                                   OR CARE OR HANDLING OF ANIMALS.
  S 3. The closing paragraph of subdivision 2 of section 3 of the  work-
ers' compensation law, as amended by chapter 666 of the laws of 1971, is
amended to read as follows:
  Nothing  in paragraph [thirty] THIRTY-ONE of this subdivision shall be
construed to apply to  any  disability  or  death  due  to  any  disease
described in paragraph twenty-nine of this subdivision.
  S 4. This act shall take effect immediately.
