THIELE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Judiciary AN ACT to amend the general construction law, in relation to the employ- ment of veterans on Veterans' day THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The general construction law is amended by adding a new section 24-b to read as follows: S 24-B. EMPLOYMENT OF VETERANS ON VETERANS' DAY. NO EMPLOYER SHALL REQUIRE ANY HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERAN OF ANY OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES TO WORK DURING THE COURSE OF VETERANS' DAY, NOVEMBER ELEVENTH, NOR SHALL ANY SUCH VETERAN FAIL TO RECEIVE WAGES FOR SUCH DAY AS A RESULT OF HIS OR HER ABSENCE FROM WORK ON SUCH DAY IF, DURING THE COURSE OF A TYPICAL WORK WEEK, IT WOULD BE CUSTOMARY FOR SUCH VETERAN TO WORK SUCH DAY. NOTHING IN THIS SECTION SHALL PREVENT A VETERAN WHO, UPON GIVING CONSENT TO HIS OR HER EMPLOYER TO WORK ON VETERANS' DAY, WORKS ON SUCH DAY. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
