S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 7484 2011-2012 Regular Sessions I N A S S E M B L Y May 6, 2011 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. GIBSON -- read once and referred to the Committee on Labor AN ACT to amend the labor law, in relation to permitting the employment of minors as referees, umpires or officials at youth sporting events THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section 130 of the labor law is amended by adding a new paragraph i to read as follows: I. A MINOR TWELVE OR THIRTEEN YEARS OF AGE AS A REFEREE, UMPIRE OR OFFICIAL AT A YOUTH SPORTING EVENT WHEN ATTENDANCE UPON INSTRUCTION IS NOT REQUIRED BY THE EDUCATION LAW. S 2. Paragraph a of subdivision 3 of section 131 of the labor law is amended by adding a new subparagraph 7 to read as follows: (7) SERVICE AS A REFEREE, UMPIRE OR OFFICIAL AT A YOUTH SPORTING EVENT. S 3. Paragraph a of subdivision 3 of section 132 of the labor law is amended by adding a new subparagraph 7 to read as follows: (7) SERVICE AS A REFEREE, UMPIRE OR OFFICIAL AT A YOUTH SPORTING EVENT. S 4. Subdivision 4 of section 142 of the labor law, as amended by chapter 35 of the laws of 2004, is amended to read as follows: 4. This section shall not apply to a newspaper carrier as defined in section thirty-two hundred twenty-eight of the education law whose hours of work are governed by such section, a farm laborer, a child performer whose employment is governed by section 35.01 of the arts and cultural affairs law and article four-A of this chapter, a child model whose employment is governed by section 35.05 of the arts and cultural affairs law, a bridge caddie at a bridge tournament, A REFEREE, UMPIRE OR OFFI- CIAL AT A YOUTH SPORTING EVENT or a baby sitter as defined in section one hundred thirty-one of this [chapter] ARTICLE.
