AN ACT to amend the labor law, in relation to  providing  protection  to
  hotel and motel employees

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. This act shall be known and may  be  cited  as  the  "hotel
worker protection act".
  S 2. The labor law is amended by adding a new section 202-l to read as
follows:
  S  202-L.  PROTECTION  OF  HOTEL  AND  MOTEL  EMPLOYEES  FROM ASSAULT.
NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW, HOTELS AND MOTELS,  AS  SUCH
TERMS  ARE  DEFINED BY SUBDIVISION ONE OF SECTION THIRTEEN HUNDRED NINE-
TY-NINE-J OF THE PUBLIC HEALTH LAW, SHALL PROVIDE EACH  HOTEL  OR  MOTEL
EMPLOYEE WHO REGULARLY ENTERS HOTEL OR MOTEL ROOMS WITH A PERSONAL ELEC-
TRONIC  DEVICE  CAPABLE OF NOTIFYING HOTEL MANAGEMENT OF AN EMERGENCY AT
THE PUSH OF A SINGLE BUTTON.
  S 3. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
it shall have become a law.
