BILL NUMBER:S1599 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating the Scajaquada pedestrian bridge as the "Scajaquada 9/11 Memorial Bridge" PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This bill would designate the Scajaquada pedestrian bridge as the "Scajaquada 9/11 Memorial Bridge." SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1 designates the Scajaquada pedestrian bridge as the "Scajaquada 9/11 Memorial Bridge" spanning New York State Route 198, from Nottingham Terrace to Hoyt Lake in Delaware Park in the city of Buffalo. JUSTIFICATION: Since 2003, an annual remembrance takes place atop the bridge on the anniversary of September 11, 2001. Buffalo Police and Fire First Responders, as well as EMS personnel and soldiers have faithfully attended every year. The purpose for this legislation is to honor the victims of 9/11 by renaming the bridge the "Scajaquada 9/11 Memorial Bridge."
