BILL NUMBER: S865 TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to allowing the use of rifles for hunting big game in a certain portion of the county of Chautauqua PURPOSE : To allow hunters in a certain portion of the county of Chautauqua to hunt bear and deer by the use of a rifle. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS : Section 11-0907 of the Environmental Conservation Law is amended to allow the hunting of bear and deer by the use of rifles in certain portions of Chautauqua County as bounded by specific roads. JUSTIFICATION : In several areas of the state, sportsmen are allowed to hunt bear and deer with rifles. This change in law would allow the use of rifles in specific rural towns of Chautauqua County making it consistent with the hunting practices of adjoining Cattaraugus County. This

YOUNG -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Environmental Conservation AN ACT to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to allowing the use of rifles for hunting big game in a certain portion of the county of Chautauqua THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Item (i) of paragraph a of subdivision 2 of section 11-0907 of the environmental conservation law, as amended by section 11 of chap- ter 483 of the laws of 2010, is amended to read as follows: (i) The counties of Deer, the first Monday Pistol, shotgun, Allegany, after November 15 crossbow, Cattaraugus, Chemung, through first Tuesday muzzle loading Chenango, Herkimer, after December 7 firearm, rifle or Madison, long bow only Montgomery, Oneida, Oswego, Otsego, Schoharie, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga and Yates and that portion of the county of Broome east of the Susquehanna river, AND IN THAT PORTION OF THE COUNTY OF CHAUTAUQUA BOUNDED AS FOLLOWS: STARTING AT THE EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
