2011-A4555 (ACTIVE) - Summary
Provides a tax exemption for a portion of the value of the tax bill for a jurisdiction to be paid by volunteer firefighters and volunteer ambulance workers within certain counties to the extent of not more than ten percent of such value; and provides applicants for such tax exemption shall reside in the town which is served by such fire company or ambulance service; provides real property may be owned by fireperson, spouse or jointly.

CONTE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Real Property Taxation AN ACT to amend the real property tax law, in relation to providing a tax exemption for certain tax bills paid by members of volunteer fire companies or volunteer ambulance services in certain counties THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section 466-c of the real property tax law, as amended by chapter 9 of the laws of 2004, is amended to read as follows: 1. Real property owned by an enrolled member OR SPOUSE of an incorpo- rated volunteer fire company, fire department or incorporated voluntary ambulance service or such enrolled member and spouse residing in a coun- ty with a population of more than one million four hundred thousand and less than one million five hundred thousand, according to the latest federal decennial census, shall be exempt from taxation to the extent of ten percent of the assessed value of such property for city, village, town, part town, special district, county or school district purposes, exclusive of special assessments, provided that the governing body of a city, village, town, county or school district, after a public hearing, adopts a local law, ordinance or resolution providing therefor. S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed- ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
