S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 5623 2011-2012 Regular Sessions I N A S S E M B L Y February 24, 2011 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. MURRAY -- read once and referred to the Committee on Judiciary AN ACT to authorize the establishment of a housing and community court in the town of Brookhaven THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The town board of the town of Brookhaven may by ordinance or local law establish a housing and community court to assist the district court in the disposition of all violations of town of Brookha- ven housing laws, codes and ordinances. Such court shall be authorized to render a final decision, determination or order imposing civil penal- ties and may take any other action authorized by law. All hearings in the Brookhaven housing and community court shall substantially comply with the requirements of article three of the state administrative procedure act. The court shall not impose a term of imprisonment upon any person or order the arrest or detention of any person. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
