BILL NUMBER:S1017 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the elder law, in relation to designated agencies in the city of Yonkers PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To amend the law to enable the City of Yonkers to be designated as an area agency on the aging. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: This bill amends paragraph (a) of Subdivision 1 of Section 214 of the Elder Law to allow the City of Yonkers to be designated as an area agency on aging pursuant to the 1965 federal Older Americans Act. JUSTIFICATION: Currently, senior citizen funding is allocated by a county area agency on the aging. This measure would give the City of Yonkers, which is larger than many counties, the ability to receive direct funding for programs for the aging. Since cities such as Yonkers contain a growing population of senior citizens, this should lead to an

STEWART-COUSINS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Aging AN ACT to amend the elder law, in relation to designated agencies in the city of Yonkers THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subdivision 1 of section 214 of the elder law is amended to read as follows: (a) "Designated agency" shall mean an agency which is designated by the chief executive officer of the county if there be one, or otherwise the governing board of such county, or the chief executive officer of the city of New York OR THE CITY OF YONKERS, or the governing board of an Indian tribal council; which is either a unit of county government or the city of New York or an Indian tribal organization or a private non- profit agency, and which is the area agency on aging created pursuant to the federal older Americans act of 1965.
