BILL NUMBER:S2929 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to requiring periodic inspection of motor vehicle windows PURPOSE: To require the inspection of vehicle windshield and window light transmittance during annual vehicle safety inspections. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one amends paragraph 1 of subdivision (c) of section 301 of the vehicle and traffic law by adding a new subparagraph (c) to require the inspection of vehicle windshield and window light transmittance during annual vehicle safety inspections. Section 2 provides the effective date. EXISTING LAW: Section 375(12-a)(b) of the Vehicle and Traffic law provides that no motor vehicle may be operated on any public highway, road or street with windows that are composed of, covered by or treated with any material that has a light transmittance of less than 70%. JOHNSON, DeFRANCISCO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Trans- portation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to requiring periodic inspection of motor vehicle windows THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph 1 of subdivision (c) of section 301 of the vehi- cle and traffic law is amended by adding a new subparagraph (c) to read as follows: (C) SUCH SAFETY INSPECTION SHALL INCLUDE AN EXAMINATION OF THE WINDOWS OF THE MOTOR VEHICLE TO ASSURE COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF PARA- GRAPH (B) OF SUBDIVISION TWELVE-A OF SECTION THREE HUNDRED SEVENTY-FIVE OF THIS TITLE. S 2. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall have become a law. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
