BILL NUMBER:S5335 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the social services law, in relation to modifying the exemption from welfare work requirements for a parent or other relative of a child up to age two PURPOSE OF THE BILL: The bill would amend the social Services Law (SSL) to allow a parent or other relative of a child up to age two to be exempt from welfare work requirements. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 of the bill would amend SSL § 332(d) to allow for a parent or other relative of a child up to age two to be exempt from welfare work requirements for a maximum period of twenty-four months. EXISTING LAW: SSL § 332(d) currently provides that a parent or other relative of a child under one year of age shall not be required to participate in work activities for a maximum period of twelve months, only three

SAVINO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Social Services AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to modifying the exemption from welfare work requirements for a parent or other rela- tive of a child up to age two THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Paragraph (d) of subdivision 1 of section 332 of the social services law, as amended by section 148 of part B of chapter 436 of the laws of 1997, is amended to read as follows: (d) a parent or other relative of a child who is personally providing care for such child under [one year] TWO YEARS of age for a [maximum] period of [twelve] TWENTY-FOUR months[, only three months of which shall be attributable to any one child, except as otherwise extended up to the twelve month period by the social services official]; S 2.
