BILL NUMBER:S5809 TITLE OF BILL: An act to authorize the dormitory authority of the state of New York to sell certain land in the county of Queens to the Indian Cultural and Community Center, Inc. PURPOSE: To authorize the New York State Dormitory Authority to sell land, described in the legislation, to the Indian Cultural and Community Center, Inc. of Queens. JUSTIFICATION: In an effort to address the needs of the growing Indian Community, many of whom who reside near the Creedmoor property, Chapter 156 of 2006 allowed for an Indian-American Community Center (ICCC) to be established on a portion of Creedmoor property. The current bill will allow for additional property to be conveyed to the organization for fair market value. This additional conveyance is necessary in order to meet New York City zoning regulations to make the current property useable. In addition, this conveyance will allow for significantly easier access to the existing property which is currently difficult, particularly for the elderly, those unable to walk long distances, and those without vehicles. Granting access to a centrally located parcel of land would be of great value to the ICCC
