S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 8742 I N A S S E M B L Y February 10, 2014 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. BRAUNSTEIN -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring all text- books to reference the Sea of Japan as also the East Sea THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 706 to read as follows: S 706. REFERENCE TO SEA OF JAPAN. ANY TEXT-BOOK APPROVED AND ISSUED PURSUANT TO SECTION SEVEN HUNDRED ONE OF THIS ARTICLE WHICH REFERS TO THE SEA OF JAPAN SHALL NOTE THAT IT IS ALSO REFERRED TO AS THE EAST SEA. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to any text-books issued on and after July 1, 2014. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD13989-02-4
