BILL NUMBER:S5521 TITLE OF BILL: An act to authorize the Dutchess county department of personnel to hire Frederick A. Eberhard, Charles Eyler III and Justin R. Hogan, as full time sheriff deputies PURPOSE: Authorizes the Dutchess county department of personnel to hire Frederick A. Eberhard, Charles Eyler III, and Justin R. Hogan as full time sheriff deputies. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Notwithstanding the provisions of section 58 of the civil service law, the Dutchess county department of personnel is hereby authorized to hire Frederick A. Eberhard, Charles Eyler III and Justin R. Hogan, who are currently part-time sheriff deputies with the Dutchess county sheriff's office, for provisional appointments as full-time sheriff deputies, until such time as they are able to complete the competitive exam for such positions. JUSTIFICATION: This bill relates to part-time deputies with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Department who were unable to take the last civil service exam because they were serving on active duty with the Armed Forces. The sheriff's department would like to hire them as full-time deputies now and would have hired them as full-time deputies already had they been able to take the last civil service exam. Eberhard, Charles Eyler III and Justin R. Hogan, as full time sheriff deputies THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 58 of the civil service law, the Dutchess county department of personnel is hereby authorized to hire Frederick A. Eberhard, Charles Eyler III and Justin R. Hogan, who are currently part-time sheriff deputies with the Dutchess county sheriff's office, for provisional appointments as full-time sher- iff deputies, until such time as they are able to complete the compet- itive exam for such positions.
