BILL NUMBER:S7826 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating certain portions of the Lake Ontario State Parkway the "U.S. Navy Seabee Parkway" PURPOSE: This bill would designate a portion of the state highway system in and around the town of Greece, county of Monroe as the "U.S. Navy Seabee Parkway". SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 amends the highway law by adding new section 344-c, which designates certain portions of the Lake Ontario State Parkway as the "U.S. Navy Seabee Parkway". Section 2 requires the commissioner of transportation to install and maintain adequate signage on the state highway as designated in section 1. To avoid confusion and disruption in commerce the designation of the highway system shall be ceremonial in nature. Section 3 states that this act shall become effective immediately. JUSTIFICATION: For more than 60 years the men and women of the Naval Construction Forces or "Seabees" have lived their motto of "we build, we fight". ROBACH -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating certain portions of the Lake Ontario State Parkway the "U.S. Navy Seabee Park- way" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-c to read as follows: S 344-C. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "U.S. NAVY SEABEE PARKWAY". ALL THE PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM BEGINNING AT THE INTERSECTION OF LAKE AVENUE IN THE TOWN OF GREECE, COUNTY OF MONROE AND THE LAKE ONTARIO STATE PARKWAY, CONTINUING WEST ON SUCH PARKWAY AND TERMINATING AT THE INTERSECTION OF SUCH PARKWAY AND E. MANITOU ROAD IN OR ABOUT THE TOWN OF GREECE IN THE COUNTY OF MONROE, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "U.S. NAVY SEABEE PARKWAY". S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not be changed as a result of this act.
